Basic information

On behalf of our client, one of the leading mining companies for gold, silver, copper, lead, and zinc in Greece, we are looking for a Safety Engineer. The safety engineer will become a part of the HSE department of the company, in order to act as the technical expert in health and safety matters, fulfill all requirements required by statute and also teach, coach, mentor superiors, peers and subordinates in the performance of their duties as required by statute and in accordance with the company's health and safety systems.

Responsibilities

• Compliance and Policy Adherence: Understand and ensure compliance with governing laws, Hellas Gold (Eldorado Gold) health safety policies, management systems, and practices.
• Strategic Planning: Assist in developing the Hellas Gold strategic OHS plan and support site teams in creating annual OHS plans.
• Risk Management: Serve as a technical expert for risk management processes, providing recommendations to line management.
• Training and Development: Train and mentor site management and staff in OHS duties, safety interactions, and ensure effective performance through feedback and coaching.
• Trend Analysis and Improvement: Analyze health and safety trends, identify improvement opportunities, and communicate actionable recommendations to management.
• Policy Implementation: Implement and maintain health and safety policies, systems, standards, and procedures. Identify and rectify system development gaps.
• Occupational Health Monitoring: Conduct occupational health monitoring and workplace measurements (e.g., noise, vibration, dust).
• Incident Reporting and Investigation: Ensure all incidents are reported and investigated per procedural and legislative requirements.
• Inspection and Audit: Develop and execute annual site inspections/audit plans, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring compliance.
• Safety Promotion and Engagement: Promote safety programs, engage with employees, and lead by example to improve HST performance.
• Training Development: Contribute to the development of health and safety training packages and monitor workforce compliance.
• International Standards Supervision: Supervise and implement international safety standards (ISO 39001, ISO 45001).
• PPE Management: Ensure proper PPE usage and evaluate its suitability continuously.
• System Development: Participate in developing OHS systems, including risk assessment, job safety analysis, and emergency response plans.
• Budget Management: Assist with the development and management of the departmental budget.
• Safety Statistics and Reporting: Monitor and report on safety statistics and health and safety information in a results-oriented manner.
• Health and Safety Governance: Participate in Health and Safety Governance Committee meetings and contribute to site compliance programs.
• Field-Level Risk Assessments: Promote field-level risk assessments to enhance personnel health and safety awareness and engagement.
• Safety Inductions: Ensure safety inductions for all site visitors, contractors, and employees.
• Specialized Training: Develop specialized health and safety training for critical tasks and higher-risk activities to reduce harm.
• Additional Duties: Perform any additional duties assigned by the Hellas Gold Health and Safety Manager.

Απαραίτητα Προσόντα

• Bachelor’s degree in Μining and Metallurgical Εngineering (NTUA) or Mineral Resources Engineering (TUC)
• Professional Engineer registration
• Driving license

Good to have

• Safety Management and Technical Expertise: Experience in developing and implementing safety management systems with strong knowledge of risk management, incident investigation, reporting, and auditing.
• Industry Experience: Background in underground mining, mills, or civil construction projects with a NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
• Leadership and Coaching: Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills, with experience as a lead auditor or investigator.
• Analytical and Communication Skills: Strong analytical skills to interpret statistics and develop results-oriented plans. Fluent in English, with the ability to effectively communicate and mentor at all workforce levels.
• Regulatory Compliance: Proficient in interpreting and implementing Mining Law requirements, with solid computer and database skills for compliance management.
